Disabled blue badge parking
In parking operated by North Yorkshire Council, such as in Thirsk, Disabled Badge holders are entitled to park free of charge within Pay and Display car parks. However, where a car park is subject to a maximum stay restriction, such as two or four hours, this time limit also applies to Disabled Badge holders.
As Thirsk Market Place Car Park has a maximum stay of two hours, Disabled Badge holders may park free of charge for up to two hours. The Blue Badge must be displayed correctly alongside the accompanying time clock, which should be set to show the time of arrival. There is no need for disabled badge holders to input their vehicle registration at the Pay and Display machines. Simply displaying their valid disabled parking badge alongside their time clock (showing the correct time of arrival) is sufficient.
Disabled Badge holders park free of charge without a time limit within two and three-hour disc zone parking areas, as well as on-street Pay and Display parking areas (pay and display areas not within a car park), subject to any restrictions indicated by the relevant signs.
Campervans & Caravans
Motor homes are not allowed to park in the coach parking area. If you park with the rear of the vehicle over the grass towards Cod Beck in Millgate car park you need only pay for one parking space. The same applies to the side area of the Marage car park. Otherwise, if the motor home overlaps a white line you must pay for two parking spaces. No overnight sleeping is allowed, you must use a Caravan Park.
Overnight parking
Anyone staying in Thirsk and needing overnight parking can purchase a £1.70 parking ticket in Thirsk Market Place that will cover from 6pm until 10am the following day (except Fridays & Sundays to avoid Market Day). Alternatively, buy an all day ticket in Millgate Car Park or Nursery Gardens Car Park because it is valid for 24 hours from time of purchase.
